New screenshots from the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man were shared today, two of which feature longtime villains from the comics, Shocker and Norman Osborn.
These are the first close shots audiences have seen of the two characters, even though both did have a small presence in the Spider-Man teaser trailer that released late last year. In the trailer, our hero can be seen receiving the brunt of Shocker’s weapons and being thrown back through a bank vault door. The screenshot matches up with this scene, as Shocker is clearly still in the same vault, dollar bills raining down around him.
Norman Osborn, on the other hand, was only briefly seen in campaign posters during what looks like a speech for his election as Mayor. The new screenshot is a much better look at Osborn, who appears to be keeping his nose clean for the time being. For those who don’t know, Norman Osborn is actually one of Spider-Man’s most notorious villains, Green Goblin. It isn’t clear if he’s gone green – and super insane – yet, but knowing him, he’s probably cooking something malicious up.
In other wall-crawler news, it was recently revealed that, in true Spider-Man fashion, the game will feature a plethora of one-liners – around 1,000, according to one writer. Peter Parker always manages to have a sense of humor, despite the many precarious situations he finds himself in. It’s a large part of why he’s beloved by fans, so it’s encouraging to see that developer Insomniac Games wants to stay true to the character. In fact, 1000 one-liners almost seems too few for ol’ web-head.
Spider-Man won’t just be bringing his sharp wit to his new game, but a selection of gadgets as well. Audiences recently got a preview of some of the toys they’ll get to play with, which include the tripwire, web bomb, and spider-drone. The tripwire works like a proximity mine that shoots out webs when someone comes in range, the web bomb will explode when thrown, webbing up enemies caught in the blast, and the spider-drone will hover around and automatically shoot webs at bad guys.
Spider-Man will release for the PS4 on September 7, 2018.
