With the rose petals now all swept up following the conclusion of Crimson Days, the focus is now back again on the trio of Factions located around the Tower. With New Monarchy claiming victory twice in a row, the question becomes whether or not Dead Orbit can once again knock them off, or if Future War Cult is finally going to get a victory. Players have one week to earn tokens by playing the game and finishing lost sectors as fast as possible in order to exchange them for unique loot. Select a faction to represent wisely as each one features a different reward for victory.
This second Faction Rally inside of season two also increases the loot pool beyond what was offered at the previous event. Bungie has added three more faction guns, a tactic which originally frustrated the community after it was found out that the full suite of gear and weapons wouldn’t be available until the very last event of the season. Winning faction weapons include a Future War Cult Scout Rifle, Dead Orbit Pulse Rifle, and a New Monarchy Pulse Rifle.
While Factions are the highlight this week, the reset has also finally arrived in Destiny 2. Since launch last year, this means that the game world has received a fresh set of things for players to accomplish including the Nightfall strike, an updated Leviathan Raid order, a new Flashpoint location, and much more. Our guide below covers all of the new stuff this week, covering all of the details players need to know for the week of February 20, 2018.
Nightfall Strike: The Inverted Spire
The strike itself isn’t terribly complex, pitting players against both Vex and Cabal enemies with a few easy platforming segments mixed in. As players storm a mining facility, players will have to deal with increasing waves of Cabal, even going as far as taking out a few bunkers on the way to the main drilling site. After clearing out rooms full of Cabal, a man cannon takes players to the drill core, which will test players ability to avoid the huge spinning blades while pressing forward against an increasing number of Cabal.
At the end of the level lies Protheon, the modular mind. The oversized minotaur enjoys changing the properties of the floor, turning it to lava or outright dissolving it and sending players to the next level. Shoot its head to score critical hit damage and make sure to continue moving around the small area to avoid the floor and waves of common enemies that also flood the area. After a third of its health is gone, the floor will dissolve, transitioning the battle to a new arena and the next phase. Use the spires to avoid the damaging floor and explosions.
The final phase begins when the boss is down to half health, triggering the floor to dissolve again. For a risky but effective strategy, equip a Riskrunner and stand in the damaging arc pool to unleash a storm of damage thanks to the passive ability which is triggered by taking arc damage. With just a sliver of health left, Protheon’s head will pop off giving it enhanced speed and a new weak spot on its stomach. Finish it off to end the mission.
Flashpoint Location: Mercury
Sorry vanilla Destiny 2 owners. The Flashpoint is locked to Curse of Osiris DLC owners for this week. Remember, completing this milestone is as simple as taking part in one of the Public Events that pop up often from the mini-map. To help finish up even faster, players should make sure to trigger the heroic modifier.
The DLC location also means the that treasure chests for this week are locked as well. For those players who own Curse of Osiris, head to Cayde-6 at the tower to pick up the two new maps for this week. As usual, these treasures have a variety of possible loot that ranges from simple rare gear, tokens, and quest items that can be turned in, to more interesting things like exotic engrams and emblems.
Considering the small size of Mercury, players won’t have to explore too far to find this weeks offering. Here’s a general description:
The weekly reset also impacts the raid each and every week as the Leviathan Raid encounter order has been shuffled. While this not only helps to keep the experience fresh for veteran players, it also helps players new to the experience get used to the Raid while also giving them an opportunity to play each part even if struggling.
Alongside the new raid order, the challenge has also been changed. Players will find the Raid Challenge linked to the Gauntlet this week. Make sure to check out our detailed guide and walkthrough for tips and tricks on completing this challenge.
Raid order for February 20:
Heroic Strikes – Complete 3 heroic strikes.
For players looking for more of a challenge when playing strikes, the Heroic Strikes playlist is the way to go in Destiny 2. Players above the minimum recommended power level of 270 have an opportunity to score better loot at the end of the mission. Complete three of these this week to earn a powerful loot engram.
Call to Arms – Win glory by participating, getting kills, and finishing PvP matches from either the Quickplay or Competitive playlists. Finish the milestone and return to Shaxx to earn his weekly engram.
And that’s all for this week. Good luck, Guardians!
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
