Pokemon Day is just around the corner, and Niantic isn’t leaving Pokemon GO fans out of the celebrations. Pokemon GO trainers can now purchase trainer avatar items based upon the original costumes worn by the playable characters of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen.
The two outfits are based upon the Pokemon trainers Red and Leaf. While Leaf was only playable in the original game’s remakes FireRed and LeafGreen, anyone who played the original Red & Blue games will most likely recognize Red’s iconic costume. The two trainer outfits can be purchased through Pokemon GO‘s style shop for 1000 Pokecoins, which includes a hat, top, gloves, backpack, and shoes. Players don’t have to purchase the entire outfit, and can just pick up individual pieces instead. The outfits are gender-specific, so female trainers are only able to wear Leaf’s outfit, and male trainers can use Red’s.
Players who don’t have quite enough Pokecoins to buy the set will be glad to know that the two outfits appear to be permanent additions to Pokemon GO, so there’s still time to earn more Pokecoins. This is in stark contrast to the Party Hat Pikachu that’s recently been released back into the wild, but can only be caught between now until the end of the month.
It’s a good time to be a Pokemon GO player, especially for gamers who started out with the classics. Niantic has been offering plenty of nostalgic items that hail from the early days of the original series, including recent Team Rocket trainer outfits. Long-time Pokemon fans in Japan also have the opportunity to fight Team Rocket’s leader, Giovanni, but sadly western fans are currently being left out in the cold.
Red and Leaf’s trainer costumes can be picked up from the Pokemon GO shop starting now.
Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS mobile devices.
