Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery - How to Get Free Energy

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, the first project from Portkey Games, is finally out, but some players are finding it difficult to make any significant progress in the game. This is because of its energy system, which governs most significant tasks. Extra energy can be purchased with gems (the in-game currency), but luckily for players who don’t want to break the bank, there are ways to earn free energy as well.

The standard ways to earn free energy in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery are simply to wait for the meter to recharge (not preferable), complete activities in-game that give out energy as a reward, and purchase energy with gems. However, players can also earn energy by tapping certain objects and House Elves in the game world.

We will detail some of the energy-giving objects that have been discovered in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery so far. But first, those who prefer a video guide should check out this video by YouTuber JohnBLOX:

Here are all the currently known objects players can tap to earn free energy in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. Players can also tap any House Elves they find for additional energy as well.

  • Castle Grounds – The stick
  • East Towers – First blank portrait
  • Lower Floor East – Books by the bench
  • Lower Floor West – The second suit of armor with a sword to the right of the Great Hall
  • Lower Floor West – Torch on the wall to the right of the Great Hall
  • West Towers – Second portrait

Unfortunately, players can’t just spam these locations and get an infinite amount of free energy. Each object that gives free energy has a six hour cooldown, so players will have to wait six hours real world time to get more energy from that particular object again. Even so, players can still make the rounds through the castle to tap these objects and have a steady supply of free energy.

So far the energy system and the game’s free-to-play nature seems to have been met with some criticism online. It will be interesting to see if the allure of returning movie cast members will help players look past these issues.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
