There has been plenty of speculation over the last few weeks about when Fortnite Battle Royale players could expect to see the ever-mysterious meteor strike, but very little about where this meteor would land. Well, if like most players you assumed Tilted Towers would be destroyed, it might come as a surprise that a rumor gaining traction on Reddit claims Dusty Depot will in fact be the meteor’s crash site.
Until now, due to the fact that a meteor was found under Tilted Towers by a player using Replay mode, it was taken as a given that its target would indeed be the town of skyscrapers. While some players love the area for its plentiful loot, others claim it gives a disproportionate feel to the map as vast numbers of players swarm there every game, so the idea that Epic Games would choose to remove it seemed to make sense.
However, according to the Reddit user who claims to have insider knowledge of Fortnite, Dusty Depot will be destroyed as Epic Games “has thought this area of the map has needed an update for a long time”. This refers to the area between Anarchy Acres, Dusty Depot, and Tomato Town, which is made up of large fields and is known to pose a threat of getting caught out in the open by surrounding enemy teams.
The apparent leaker goes on to make further claims about Season 4:
The map will always be evolving. The map will be updated WEEKLY in Season 4. Epic feels like they had a wasted opportunity with Tilted Towers going up all at once. They would rather have had bulldozers & a few raising cranes one week, then one building go up the next week, two buildings the following week, etc.
Along with these more major bombshells, the user also appears to confirm that Season 4 will have a superhero theme (something most already assumed), and claims that Moisty Mire would also be destroyed before the end of the season.
Whilst the destruction of Dusty Depot would be a huge surprise to every Fortnite fan, the most interesting take-away from this supposed leak would arguably be the new constantly-evolving map. This would not only be a fantastic way for Epic to further ensure fans keep coming back to its Battle Royale phenomenon, but it would also explain why developers haven’t given much thought to creating a second map just yet. After all, who needs a whole new map if the current one changes every week?
It’s important to keep in mind that this information, while very compelling, is certainly not official – the leak could easily be nothing more than a creative troll. Regardless, with Season 3 drawing to a close and meteors already landing on the map, it won’t be long before we finally find out the truth about Fortnite‘s enigmatic comet.
Fortnite Battle Royale is free to play now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Mobile.
