Pokemon GO has really upped the ante when it comes to delivering frequent and rewarding events. Rolling right from the Kanto event into an exciting Earth Day was enough to make most of April a blast and things aren’t slowing down in May. Out of nowhere, Pokemon GO just kicked off yet another event, and this one is all about the fighters.
The Battle Showdown event starts today (May 1) at 1:00pm PT and runs through May 14. This event is interesting in that it features both increased spawns for certain Pokemon and special rewards associated with visiting or battling in Gyms.
During the event, Fighting-types will have an increased spawn rate. That means like Pokemon like Machop and Makuhit will appear much more frequently during the next two weeks. Niantic didn’t confirm any other specific Fighting-types that will make an appearance, but similar events have ended up featuring more increased spawns than listed in the press release. Fingers crossed for some tyrogue sightings!
In addition to the increased spawns, there is some serious motivation to get out and participate in Battle Raids and Gym takeovers. Check out this list of bonuses available during the event…
2× bonus XP for Gym Battles
2× bonus XP for Raid Battles
Raid Battles will also award a guaranteed 3,000 Stardust for participating
Raid Battles will award at least one Rare Candy if you win
2× Badge multiplier for Gym visits
Spinning the Photo Disc at Gyms will also yield more items
The most exciting part about this event is that is seems to have something to offer every type of player. From raiders, to gym leaders, to players who just like hunting down pokemon in the wild; this event should deliver on all fronts.
It seems like Niantic is really hitting its stride this year and understanding what gets players out and active in the mobile AR game. Hopefully that trend continues through the summer and we continue to see these kinds of exciting events. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
