One of Fall’s biggest games is one that fans still know very little about. After getting hit with a pretty big delay last year, Red Dead Redemption 2 has continued to fly very far under the radar. In fact, fans haven’t seen or heard much regarding the open world western since its last trailer, only recently learning that the game is being readied for release in October. While Rockstar still isn’t talking, an upcoming art book for the game has seemingly confirmed one previously unknown detail regarding the game’s setting.
Thanks to a product description for a book listing on Amazon titled The Art of Red Dead Redemption 2, fans now know exactly when the game takes place. According to the description, players will get to experience the story of Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang at the turn of the twentieth century as they rob, loot, and steal in an effort to survive. The first game took place in 1911, so this detail from the art book indicates that Red Dead Redemption 2 is likely set anywhere from 1899 to 1901.
The book itself is scheduled for release on October 30, four days after the game launches which indicates that the game is on track and won’t be delayed again. Why the game was delayed int he first place isn’t known outside of additional polish time, though Rockstar isn’t a company that’s very open with the public during active development. However, the studio’s stellar track record does afford it this type of leniency, especially considering its most recent financial and commercial success with Grand Theft Auto 5, a game that has continued to dominate even after launching all the way back in 2013.
While this news is no doubt exciting, fans won’t have to wait too much longer for even more information on Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar Games announced yesterday that a brand new trailer is set to debut on Wednesday, May 2. As to what the trailer might feature isn’t know at this time, though fans have already seen lead character Arthur Morgan in action previously. With ties to Dutch van der Linde and his gang, Red Dead Redemption 2 appears to be a prequel of sorts which means fans may even be seeing former protagonist John Marston once more. Marston eventually left the gang in 1906, so considering the timeline fans now know, chances are high for another Marston appearance.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will release on October 26, 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
