Leading up to next week’s launch of Destiny 2‘s second expansion, Warmind, Bungie has announced that a new digital comic is coming soon and the developer also released new lore online.
The free digital comic, appropriately titled Warmind, will debut on Bungie’s website in the near future, becoming the second series of digital comics based on Destiny 2‘s expansions. It looks like it will cover the story of Ana Bray, a Guardian who was revealed in the DLC’s prologue cinematic released last week.
Game director Christopher Barrett announced the comic and some of the talent behind it including Mark Waid who has written Dr. Strange comics for Marvel. He is joined by writer David Rodriguez, and the comic is inked by Kris Anka, an artist for Marvel’s Runaways.
In addition to the announcement of the digital comic, Bungie also shared three pieces of lore content, which the developer has coined “Warmind Weblore.” These short fragments of lore are reminiscent of Destiny 1‘s Grimoire cards and, in some respect, Destiny 2‘s in-game lore tab.
While lore was added more into the narrative of Destiny 2, many hardcore fans were disappointed with the removal of the Grimoire from the sequel. But these sections of text read very much like the Grimoire that veteran fans will be used to. It could also be a preview of things to come; Barrett did make mention that Bungie has been working to change how it handles narrative and lore in Destiny 2 in light of feedback from fans.
In the past, Barrett has promised to add more lore inside and outside of Destiny 2, and has even hinted at the return of Dead Ghosts (which, in Destiny 1, were the key to unlocking Grimoire cards on Bungie’s website).
Bungie is promising more sections of this Warmind Weblore tomorrow and could continue to add more throughout the week, so those interested should check back regularly. The Fall of Osiris digital comic, which serves as a prequel story to Destiny 2‘s Curse of Osiris expansion, can be read right now on Bungie’s website.
Destiny 2: Warmind releases on May 8, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
