Boxer Celebrates Win with Fortnite Dance

In the latest installment of “Fortnite is taking over the world” the game’s antics and popularity have spilled over into the realm of professional boxing. One of the most popular dance emotes in the game was recreated in the ring during a recent lightweight matchup.

If there’s anything that makes losing sting a little more, it’s a taunting victory dance from the opponent that knocked you out of a game. Lightweight boxer Teófimo López took that sentiment to a whole new level this weekend when he started doing Fortnite’s Take the L dance in the ring.

López scored a round one knockout in his matchup against Vitor Freitas and started celebrating with a Take the L taunt as the official was checking on his opponent. The victory dance has sparked some debate about unsportsmanlike conduct in the boxing community, but also caught the attention of the video game world for obvious reasons…

It’s no surprise to see a Fortnite reference come up in boxing, now that we’ve already seen its popularity start to spill over into other professional sports, music, and movies. The game has certainly caught the globe’s attention and it will be interesting to see how long it can hold onto it.

It was only a short year ago that PUBG was the battle royale game of choice, so it will be interesting to see if Fortnite can hold onto the crown in the coming year or if something new will come along to replace it.

Fortnite is available now in early access for Mobile, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
