Fortnite Coming to Android This Summer

Fortnite Coming to Android This Summer

Just a couple of months ago, Epic Games launched Fortnite on iOS, which led to the developer raking in a huge sum of money due to players spending millions of dollars on the first mobile version of the title shortly after its release on the Apple platform. Now, it looks as if the studio is set to tap into another major mobile market soon, as the company has announced its decision to have the worldwide gaming sensation come out for Android this summer.

This much was confirmed in a blog post written by Epic Games today, with the company behind Fortnite “targeting this summer for the release” of the game on Android devices. Unfortunately, though, Epic has only offered a launch window for the multiplayer sandbox survival shooter and failed to provide an exact date for its availability on the Google-developed operating system. Nevertheless, the studio has promised to share more information about the subject at some point in the near future.

There’s no doubt that Android users will be ecstatic to learn of their ability to play Fortnite this summer, especially since many had been speculating that it would come to the platform either in fall or even winter of this year. Of course, there’s no telling how Epic Games plans to roll out the title’s launch for Android in the next few months, as it could be done similarly to the way in which the company pushed the game to iOS. This initially done through a limited Invite Event, with Fortnite then eventually becoming open to all on the Apple operating system.

Taking all of this into consideration, once Fortnite goes live for Android, Epic Games will more than likely see a huge surge in in-game spending. This will surely put even more pressure on its competition, as the title already earned five times the mobile revenue of PUBG in their first week of availability for on-the-go devices. So, it will be interesting to see how the free-to-play Battle Royale title shapes up on Android this summer.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and is eyeing a summer 2018 release window for Android.
