The Last of Us is one of Sony’s all-time most acclaimed exclusives, so it’s no surprise fans are waiting with baited breath for any and every tidbit from the devs behind the upcoming sequel, The Last of Us 2. Today, Vice President of Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann teased the E3 2018 reveal of The Last of Us 2 with a still from the trailer, and the hype is real.
Druckmann, who also served as director for The Last of Us, shared the screenshot to his followers on Twitter and captioned the post with “T-Minus 3 Weeks. #E32018,” a reference to the upcoming and highly-anticipated trade event where The Last of Us 2 will appear.
The still image was pulled from the PlayStation Experience Reveal Trailer released in December 2016. The scene portrays an abandoned, densely forested residential street scattered with dilapidated homes, vehicles in various stages of decay, and a stop sign branded with the symbol of the Fireflies.

The imagery and trailer in-full effectively draw from the first game’s drearily tense atmosphere while previewing a substantial continuation of the story, as it’s clear from the footage that some serious time has passed since the events of the first game. That being said, with nearly a year and a half between the first reveal and today, fans are hoping for some actual gameplay footage at this year’s E3.
Attention around The Last of Us 2, its development, and potential release window has been steadily ramping up in recent weeks in anticipation for its appearance at E3 2018. We recently reported on a conversation between Game Informer and Days Gone’s creative director that implied The Last of Us 2 wouldn’t release until at least 2019.
Judging from the fact that Naughty Dog recently listed several open positions in The Last of Us 2’s development team, it seems the game may not be as close to completion as fans would hope. On the other hand, it’s possible that the job postings are an effort to speed up development and get the game in stores as quickly as possible.
The Last of Us 2 does not have an official release date as of this reporting.
