God of War Releases Epic CG Trailer

God of War Releases Epic CG Trailer

A new CG trailer for God of War has been released, offering a dramatic look at the world and action of the upcoming PS4-exclusive game. The trailer features the two protagonists of God of War: series staple Kratos and his son Atreus, a new character to the franchise.

To be clear, the trailer is fully CG and is not comprised of actual game footage, but it should give fans a feel for the tone, world, and experience developer Sony Santa Monica hopes players will get from this newest game in the God of War franchise. After all, the core story of the new game is a father and his son.

On Sony’s US YouTube channel, this one-minute trailer is titled “Full TV Commercial” so it’s likely that it (or a shorter version of it) will be spotted during TV commercial breaks over the next month until the game’s launch on April 20. This weekend, Sony sponsored a commercial-free episode of Family Guy but offered this trailer before and after the airing. On Sony’s European YouTube, it is titled simply “Arrow Trailer.”

Atreus’ arrow is featured heavily in this trailer, serving as a symbol of the boy’s growth as well as functioning as the main way the trailer transitions through time. The trailer hints at a character growth that players will likely experience between Kratos and Atreus, with the first scene being Atreus missing his bow shot on a buck.

God of War multiple games planned

As the trailer continues, a number of combat sequences take place with Kratos fighting a number of creatures. Atreus’ arrows become more effective in subsequent fights, finally climaxing with the boy’s arrow taking out a troll-like creature just ahead of Kratos. Many of these same scenes will play out in the finished game, as evidenced by a leaked gameplay video earlier this week, only with the player controlling Kratos and giving out orders to Atreus.

The release of God of War is fast approaching and the marketing push for the game is clearly in full swing. The game’s creative director was recently featured in a video explaining the game’s lore and setting, and Sony has announced a special God of War themed PS4 Pro.

God of War releases on April 20, 2018, exclusively on PS4.
