Many Pokemon fans are excited to play two the new Pokemon games, Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, exclusively on Nintendo Switch later this year, and like many Pokemon games, these two will also have online features. Recently, the Pokemon Company has confirmed that like some Xbox and PlayStation games, in order to access online features, Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee will also require subscription to Nintendo’s premium online service.
According to the Pokemon Company, “Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee will have online play functionality [and] battling and trading with other players over the Internet or locally will be available in these games. However, the feature set will be somewhat simplified in comparison to previous games in that there is no GTS, Wonder Trade, or Battle Spot (Rating Battle, Free Battle, and Online Competition, etc.) for example”.
The Nintendo Switch does not have any online service yet though, but it will be implemented in September of this year. Pokemon fans wishing to access Let’s Go, Pikachu and Let’s Go, Eevee online features will be required to pay the subscription fee of $4 per month, or $8 for three months, or $20 for 12 months. For multiple subscriptions on the same account, Nintendo will also offer a $35 family plan that allows eight Nintendo account holders to share a single membership.
According to the Pokemon Company, “further details will be revealed at a later date,” where we hope that more details regarding scope of the services will be revealed, such as whether the online service will be needed to transfer Pokemon from Pokemon GO into Let’s Go, Pikachu and Let’s Go, Eevee. Some fans may be upset about having to pay a subscription fee for the Nintendo Switch online features, and for the Pokemon games, but the Nintendo subscription fee is still very reasonable if one looks at the Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus subscription fees, which are $10 a month.
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee both release on November 16, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
