Destiny 2 Reveals the Next Raid’s Name and Launch Date

Destiny 2 is getting a new raid in its seventh season, Season of Opulence. And for the first time in the franchise, the raid will launch the same day as Season 7, giving players very little time to gear and level up before jumping into the endgame PvE activity.

The new raid, which will be available to players who paid for Destiny 2’s Annual Pass, is called Crown of Sorrow. Outside of the name, nothing is known about where this raid might take place in Destiny 2, although the few shots shown in trailers have been set aboard the Leviathan.

The raid will launch on June 4, 2019 alongside the Season of Opulence and Penumbra add-on. Whereas the game is expected to switch over to a new season at reset at 10 a.m. PDT, players will have just a handful of hours to push their level as high as they can before the raid goes live at 4 p.m. PDT.

In addition to the release date and name, developer Bungie also let players know that the recommended Power level for the first encounter in the raid is 715. That is 15 levels higher than the current Power level cap in Destiny 2‘s Season of the Drifter. And expect that 715 level to climb as the raid progresses, as Destiny’s raids always increase in level difficulty the deeper players get into a raid.

Bungie is also putting some changes in places to keep players from overly boosting their power right at the launch of the season in preparation for the raid, including making the Last Wish and Scourge of the Past raids unavailable until the new Crown of Sorrow raid is beaten. Doing so prevents players with a stash of Ethereal Keys from being able to level up quicker than other players.

Prime Attunements will also be reset to two charges per character at the beginning of the season to avoid taking advantage of Powerful Engrams. Lastly, the current system of locking out Powerful bounties carried over from a previous Destiny 2 season will still be in place. In this case, any Season 6 bounties will only be able to drop up to 700 Power items once Season of Opulence begins.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
