Sony has officially announced its PlayStation Hits line-up of greatest PlayStation 4 sellers that from here on will retail for just $20. An initial selection of fifteen games will be available as part of the PlayStation Hits, each at the new low price-point. Buyers will recognize the PlayStation Hits branding via the new red labeling on both the front and side of the box art. PlayStation Hits will start hitting shelves on June 28.
Fifteen games make up the initial wave of PlayStation Hits and virtually all of them had to have been obvious choices for Sony. Here are all fifteen PS4 games included in the initial PlayStation Hits launch wave:
Sony has already confirmed that this is indeed just the first wave of PlayStation 4 games to be selected to be included in PlayStation Hits. For example, no games from late 2016 or 2017 are yet part of PlayStation Hits. More titles will be added over time. For comparison’s sake, the PlayStation 3 Greatest Hits line-up featured over 150 games.
The PlayStation Hits branding has been rumored for some time now and surprised many when it wasn’t announced during E3. Nevertheless, Sony appears to have just been waiting for the slower news cycle following the big convention.
A discounted branding for top-selling PlayStation 4 games has been a long time coming. The PS4 launch was in November 2013, meaning the PS4 is quickly approaching its fifth anniversary. Most of the games included in the PlayStation hits line-up haven’t just been available for years, but have been available at lower than the new $19.99 price point for years. Still, it will be a boon to know that all of these great games will likely once against be restocked on store shelves across the country now.
One other interesting detail is that Sony decided to shift away from the Greatest Hits branding that’s been a tradition for all previous consoles, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and even the PlayStation Portable. It’s a curiosity that Sony decided to go with PlayStation Hits for this generation.
Start picking up the PlayStation 4’s PlayStation Hits on June 28.
