Last week, Fortnite was officially added to the Nintendo Switch, and players on the hybrid mobile console noticed at one point that a countdown timer could be seen on televisions as the villain’s base projected a hologram of a missile. Now, it looks as if the countdown timer has been updated to project a hologram of an ever-dwindling clock at the aforementioned baddie’s lair in front of the rocket, with many speculating what this could mean for the wildly popular multiplayer sandbox survival shooter.
As seen in the image below from the Fortnite player and Redditor known as AnarchyDT, the countdown clock depicts days, hours, and minutes of waiting before Epic Games officially decides to reward players with what will presumably be an update to the map. Previous speculation regarding the timer has posited that the studio will use the missile at the villain’s base to wipe out a subsection of the map so that developers can use the destruction build a new location.
Should the countdown clock lead to another new spot in Fortnite in which to frolic and fight, then it would be the second instance of Epic Games creating a loose story line involving a terrifyingly powerful force demolishing section of the map so as to justify its reconstruction with fresh materials. After all, many diehard devotees of the free-to-play Battle Royale portion of the game will recall that a meteor seen in the skies eventually crashed into the earth to turn Dusty Depot into Dusty Divot.
Taking everything into consideration, it will be interesting to see what will come of Fortnite‘s mysterious countdown timer, as Epic Games could be using the placement of the clock in front of the missile as a means for misdirection. Then again, we will simply have to wait to find out what the studio has planned.
Fortnite is available now in early access for Nintendo Switch, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
