Modern Warfare Adds Feature Never Seen in Call of Duty

While Activision’s annual franchise is set for release later this year, Infinity Ward is looking to shake things up a bit with its upcoming title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. As the debut trailer revealed, this year’s game reintroduces players to Captain Price, though this experience serves as a reimaging of the 2007 title and features more tactical and moral choices than seen before. A new story and visual engine isn’t the only additions to the game this year as Infinity Ward revealed a brand new mechanic never before seen in the franchise.

In a new post over on the Activision blog, Mark Grigsby reveals that players will have access to an all new reload animation when playing the game. For the first time in series history, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will allow players to reload while in ADS, or aiming down the sights. Grigsby, who serves as animation director on the game, reveals that this mechanic was added as it helps better keep players inside the action and within the battle.

In the past, we would never physically show that transition of one mag to another, but this time around, everything’s physical, so if you have an extended mag, like a drum perhaps, or a long magazine, all of the movements within every reload are visceral, strong, aggressive, it gives another feeling of power and representing the Tier 1 operators that utilize these machines.

In addition, the reload animation that players see is entirely dependent on whether or not the weapon magazine is empty. If the magazine is completely empty, the player animation shows the reload and rack in full. However, if the player is performing a tactical reload where only part of mag is empty, the animation is completely different.

Even though Activision has yet to show off the multiplayer side of the game, it hasn’t stopped players from attempting to dig for new information. A couple of recent leaks potentially reveal all of the multiplayer killstreak rewards like the return of the Pave low as well as the existence of a new Battle Royale style experience. The rumor also states that this new experience will contain 200 players, feature tier-based weapons, a revive system, as well as elements from past Modern Warfare games likely in a similar vein as what players see currently inside of Blackout.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
