Whenever a new Fortnite update comes out, dataminers are quick to sift through it to find details on what will be making its way to the popular battle royale game in the next update. Twitter account TwoEpicBuddies is known for leaking this kind of info, and now it has revealed that next week’s Fortnite update will add a brand new weapon to the game called the Drum Gun.
The Drum Gun is a new assault rifle-type weapon that should be added to Fortnite in next week’s update. However, it’s worth reminding fans that just because Epic adds a new weapon to Fortnite, it doesn’t mean that weapon will be a part of the game for any significant amount of time. In fact, Epic has a tendency to add weapons to Fortnite, discover they are unbalanced, and then remove them from the game to be placed in the “vault” for retooling.
We’ve seen Epic do this with some weapons in the past, but hopefully the Drum Gun is able to avoid any issues like that. After all, it seems to be a fairly straight-forward kind of weapon, and we’ve seen similar guns used in numerous shooters before without any issue, so perhaps the Drum Gun will be here to stay.

While Fortnite fans have to wait until next week to get their hands on the Drum Gun, the latest update has added a twist to an existing weapon type that they can try out in the meantime. After downloading the latest update, Fortnite fans can actually dual wield pistols, which should shake things up a bit, and make pistols a more viable option in the game.
Future updates for Fortnite will undoubtedly add even more weapons to the game, but they will also bring some other exciting content. For example, season 5 of Fortnite will kick off on July 12, and is expected to bring with it significant changes to the map, as usual. Epic has also suggested that a gifting feature is on the way at some point, so Fortnite fans have that to look forward to as well.
With Fortnite continuing to be an absolute juggernaut in terms of revenue and popularity, fans of the battle royale game should expect it to receive consistent support from Epic Games for a very long time to come.
Fortnite is out now in early access for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and iOS.
