Upcoming horror themed action RPG Vampyr, which had its release date confirmed a few months ago, is starting to build up hype for its looming release date. Focus Home Interactive, the game’s publisher, is doing that by releasing a new trailer for the title.
The new trailer, which was released today, focuses on Vampyr‘s story. In it, there is a voice that seems to be speaking to the game’s lead character, Jonathan Reid, telling him he has been chosen. We then see Jonathan awaken in what looks to be a mass grave. The trailer then goes on to show different character interactions with both friends and foes alike, including Jonathan being shot at by guards or possibly police shortly after stumbling out of the grave. It is all set to a haunting cover of Blue Oyster Cult’s Don’t Fear The Reaper.
For those unfamiliar with the game, it takes place in 1918 London during the Spanish flu epidemic. Jonathan Reid, the playable character, is a doctor who has been turned into a vampire. This means players will have to make a difficult choice throughout the game. Be the good doctor and only satiate Reid’s vampiric urges by preying upon his enemies, or be the type of doctor who occasionally has a Bloody Mary at work.
DONTNOD, the developers of the game, have stated that all the NPCs in the game are unique. The developer also put a system in the game where Reid can see the thoughts of those he feeds upon, so players will see that individual’s unique personal story. This will make it so each victim is not seen as just food and will possibly weigh on the conscious of both Dr. Reid and the player, making the choice of whether to stick to feeding upon enemies or giving into the temptation and preying upon more vulnerable targets that much harder. On the other hand, this means no two players may see the same stories, depending on which characters are chosen to be be the victims of Dr. Reid’s urges.
Vampyr already has a bit of hype surrounding it, with its unique setting, story and gameplay systems. In fact, it is actually one of 2018’s most anticipated horror titles.
Vampyr will release on June 5, 2018 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
