It has been nearly four years since the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and 343 Industries continues its hard work to deliver post-launch updates for the compendium well after it went live on day one. Just recently, the developer’s Community Manager known as Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard provided the latest update for a patch to the first-person shooter collection, and managed to sneak in a fun little Destiny reference in the notes.
As found in the the fifth Halo: The Master Chief Collection development update blog, ske7ch mentions how he spent a good deal of time addressing the loading issues in Halo 1 that particularly cropped up around co-op situations, and explained how he fixed the bug. In the process, the developer is able to give a shout out to the original Destiny by having added a sentence that reads, “Remember that Halo 1 co-op loading bug I mentioned earlier, then I said I fixed it? Heh, didn’t work. So, the Centurion Bond Broth-errrrr, wrong franchise…”.
For the uninitiated, the above quote is a variation of one from Cayde-6 in Destiny‘s The Taken King, with the original dialogue from the Hunter Vanguard talking about the task Guardians are faced with in the expansion’s Shield Brothers Strike. The original Cayde-6 quote that the Halo dev is referencing reads, “Remember that Centurion Oryx took right after you landed on the Dreadnaught? Then the Centurion and that Taken Ogre tried to stop you from killing the King? Heh. Didn’t work. So the Centurion’s bond-brothers are pretty angry they lost their commander.”
Taking all of this into consideration, it’s always nice to see developers allude to other franchises in their work, as it often shows how much of a fan they are of a fellow creator’s efforts, and the Destiny nod from 343 Industries’ Community Manager ske7ch is definitely a fun one. So, perhaps we will eventually see some Easter eggs referencing Bungie’s action-RPG in the forthcoming Halo: Infinite at some point down the line.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available now for Xbox One.
