According to one of the 113 rapid-fire questions asked of two Bungie developers this week, Destiny 2‘s Forsaken expansion will have new weekly milestones for players to meet when the weekly reset comes around.
The weekly reset in any MMO or online game is a time of peak player activity, where fans come to complete the array of tasks they can run through every seven days. From getting powerful gear by completing crucible matches to completing the Raid, Destiny 2‘s weekly reset on Tuesdays is no exception to the common MMO gameplay loop.
In an interview with Game Informer, Bungie’s Steve Cotton and Scott Taylor tackled 113 rapid-fire questions ranging from serious to silly with “Will there be a new play-space,” or “Can you put ‘these hands’ in the game as a weapon?”
Near the middle of the interview, the two Bungie devs were quick to confirm that, yes, there will be new weekly milestones to reach when Destiny 2: Forsaken goes live. This means that players are going to be able to look forward to consistent weekly quests to increase their power level, on top of long-term endgame goals like adding to their Collection or beating the Raid on the highest difficulty.
A point of heavy concentration when it comes to Destiny 2‘s criticism has come from fans who were simply looking for more to do in the game. While its predecessor operated much like a hardcore MMO with a satisfying core gameplay loop married to long-term reward grinding, many fans thought Destiny 2 lacked depth in its rewards, systems, and activities.
While it certainly matters exactly what these new weekly milestones are going to be, the fact that more are being added could serve as a building block for Forsaken‘s effort to bring depth back into Destiny. Other changes being made to the milestone, such as Flashpoints being put on a 4-day cycle instead of their current status as a weekly activity, could help the milestone system feel much better for hardcore players.
