Even though Warmind may not have reinvented the Destiny 2 experience like many fans were hoping for, one of its big innovations revolved around the Crucible and a new ranking system. Through two different progression systems, one each for competitive and quickplay playlists, Guardians can earn new rewards like Redrix’s Claymore as well as better ranks by earning enough experience. To help celebrate the American holiday of Independence Day, Bungie announced a special treat for Crucible players.
In its weekly Destiny 2 update blog, Senior Crucible Designer Kevin Yanes revealed that starting at 10 am PDT on Friday, July 6, Crucible players can earn three times the normal experience for participating in Valor specific modes. Interested players can join either Quickplay or Mayhem playlists to see the experience boost.
Bungie has also confirmed that this enhanced rank gain lasts through the weekend until the Tuesday reset, giving players plenty of time to ascend through the six ranks in an effort to score better loot before the season comes to an end in September. Reaching 2,000 points lets players reset their rank, essentially Destiny 2’s version of prestiging in a Call of Duty game, which also awards exclusive, high-level loot such as an exotic ghost shell for resetting the Valor rank twice.
WIth Destiny 2: Forsaken now only a couple months away, Bungie looks to be fully evolving the PvP experience again by introducing a new mode called Gambit which mixes PvP with PvE to create something wholly unique. While the mode has received a lot of positivity already from press and players who have tried it, Bungie appears to have a few more secrets its unwilling to share regarding the upcoming expansion including a new PvP mode called Breakthrough. Details are limited but Breakthrough will be in the Competitive playlist with a heavy focus on objective based gameplay.
Destiny 2: Forsaken launches on September 4, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
