With the release of the critically acclaimed God of War game only a few days away, reviews are starting to flood in and most are overwhelmingly positive. In fact, God of War has now broken the record of being the best reviewed PlayStation 4 game in history, as well as being one of the best-rated games across all platforms.
Metacritic has revealed that the new God of War scored an astounding 95 out of 100 based on an aggregate of dozens of reviews. The only games that previously scored higher than God of War are two re-releases from PlayStation 3, Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us. The only original PlayStation 4 games whose scores came close to God of War, are Persona 5, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which all scored 93 on Metacritic.
Some comments by reviewers listed on Metacritic are that “God of War is an astonishing achievement in the series, a magnificent and deep game that plays quite differently but greatly and succeeds in absolutely every aspect”, and that “God of War is, simply put, the best PS4 game I have played in the console’s lifecycle.” This is no surprise, as we know from the promotional material and the tech breakdown of the game released so far that the game is sure to impress.
Of course, a high or low review score does not necessarily mean that gamers will receive the game well or not. Fortnite, for example, has scored almost 20 points less than God of War on the same platform, but is nevertheless one the most popular games in the world at the moment. After the release of God of War too, some more reviews of the game might actually come in and lower the score on Metacritic, but despite this, all the positive news that we have heard about God of War up to this point makes us very excited to play the game later this week.
God of War is set to release on April 20, 2018, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
