Completing the journey
If you are unfamiliar with The Unfinished Swan, it follows the story of a ten-year-old orphan. Monroe, together with a swan that appears from an unfinished painting, journeys into a “surreal, storybook-inspired kingdom.”
Throughout multiple chapters, players will have to chase down the elusive swan. Every level is full of surprises, and introduces a variety of ways to explore the world. You can expect to chance upon “a host of bizarre (and sometimes dangerous) creatures, and encounters with the eccentric king who built this empire.” Giant Sparrow has put plenty of heart into the game, and it shows.
The connections do not just stop there. Many who have played What Remains of Edith Finch have found references to The Unfinished Swan as well. The connections are by no means a coincidence, of course. Fans have had many theories, and Giant Sparrow has since confirmed some of them. A certain member of the Finch family is deeply linked to The Unfinished Swan, and if you are curious, head on over to this Reddit AMA from 2017. Do be cautious though, as it is definitely spoiler territory.
Nevertheless, the way Giant Sparrow crafts their stories always leave a mark, and it’s great to have The Unfinished Swan make its way to PC. Be sure to pack some tissues.
