If there’s any silver lining to more people being at home now, it’s that companies have also taken notice, dropping the occasional free game on their respective online stores. The latest to join the freebie club is 2018’s Just Cause 4. If you want to fast-track your way to Rico and his grappling gadgets, you can head directly to the Epic Games Store for your free download.

Rocket cows in flight

Just Cause 4 is at its root an action game. However, there is more than meets the eye when it comes to assuming the role of Rico Rodriguez. For starters, you can ride just about anything, grapple just about anything, and place rockets on animals — like cows — and send them rocketing into Earth’s atmosphere. Traditional players will find a standard action game buried under all the madness of periodic storms and just about every element in Mother Nature’s playbook. In Rico’s world, though, these run-ins with extreme weather are the result of man-made experiments. But hey, that’s what it’s all about.

Clock’s tickin’, Rico

The free pickup of Just Cause 4 is only available for a limited time. As it stands right now, you can download the standard version of the game until April 23. However, you should be warned that a complete edition of Just Cause 4 is looming on the horizon. When you visit the Epic Games Store page for the game, it notes that the Complete Edition and Gold Edition will be dropping soon.

Each includes a mix of additional content that has been released since 2018. However, the Gold Edition includes the Expansion Pass along with multiple skins and packs bundled with the Golden Gear Pack. This includes the Skystriker Weaponized Wingsuit, Black Hand Stealth Micro Jet, and Neon Racer Pack to name a few. It’s unclear if additional discounts for these packs or newly introduced versions of the game will become available if you pick up the standard game free of charge.
