Shadowlands delayed to later in the year

Bad news for the denizens of Azeroth. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has been delayed. This, despite Blizzard offering assurances that the expansion would be available later this month. Blizzard has done its best to keep people engaged by launching new expansions every couple of years. But World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will see an unfortunate delay from its original launch on October 27 to the end of the year.

The delay, as explained in a tweet from the game’s Executive Producer John Hight, will let the team further polish “one of the most intricate expansions” the game has seen. Hight notes that the endgame in particular still needs refinement. This work has been made more difficult due to the team having to work remotely. Blizzard is still targeting a 2020 release date for Shadowlands. That should put the release sometime in November or December if the company plans on keeping that target.

World of Working from Home

It has been over two years since WoW‘s last expansion, Battle for Azeroth. But fans shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to get their hands on the newest adventure. Pre-patching for Shadowlands should be hitting on October 13. The patch will bring in the new character leveling changes that will drop the max level from 120 back down to 60. Also on deck are a “new-player experience on Exile’s Reach” and new ways to deck out your character. Leading up to the release will also see an in-game event. In it, players will have to fight off the Scourge, the undead army of the Lich King.

If you can’t wait the extra couple weeks, you can try to opt-in to the beta for a chance to test it out before it officially launches. Barring that, you can also get your fix by watching the Shadowlands: Afterlives animated series for some of that lore. At the very least there are plenty of other games coming out this month to keep you busy.
