Soulstorm guide — Unlocking all endings and final levels

Oddworld: Soulstorm is now available as an Epic Games Store exclusive. This reimagining of Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, originally released in 1998, has a lot of challenges as you go through its campaign. One of these happens to be the rescue and survival of almost 1,400 Mudokons across multiple levels. Indeed, saving Abe’s followers can determine the ending cinematics you’ll see. Anyway, here’s our guide to help you unlock all the endings and final levels in Oddworld: Soulstorm.

Note: Stay tuned for our complete walkthrough for Oddworld: Soulstorm, as well as our guides and features hub.

Oddworld: Soulstorm – Getting all the endings and unlocking the final levels

Oddworld: Soulstorm has 15 levels (or stages) by default. Owing to intricate mechanics, puzzles, and enemies, some stages might take you 30 to 40 minutes to beat on your first try. While you’re doing this, you could also encounter several Mudokons that need to be rescued by Abe.

In some stages, you’ll follow a scripted sequence where hundreds of Mudokons are attempting to escape. All you need to do is handle the hostiles to ensure that many of them survive.

In other levels, though, Abe will have a chance to interact with them and have them as followers. You can give them items, tell them to wait in an area (to ambush or attack mobs), or get them to follow you around as you’re just traversing the same area.

With that in mind, you’ll need to look out for Bird Portals (objects which have a bright pink glow). When Abe chants to cast a golden orb, the Bird Portal will open to allow all nearby Mudokons to escape to safety.

Ending requirements and Quarma

As for the endings themselves, your Quarma (“karma”) score is considered. Quarma represents how many Mudokons you were able to save in a level, so try to reach at least 80% for a good score.

Here are the requirements:

  • Worst ending – Save 80% of the Mudokons in six or fewer levels.
  • Bad ending – Save 80% of the Mudokons in seven to 11 levels.
  • Good ending – Save 80% of the Mudokons in 12 or more levels. This will also unlock the final levels (16 and 17).
  • Final ending – Save 80% of the Mudokons in all 17 levels.

It’s worth mentioning that all levels count towards these requirements. As such, the first stage (which also acts as the tutorial) already has you getting a 100% Quarma score and the second stage is fairly easy too. The remaining stages, however, will require more work. Just remember the goal to reach 80%. For instance, if a level has 32 Mudokons, then you need to save at least 26. If a level only has one, then you have to save that lone fella.

What if I missed out on some Mudokons?

If you failed to save a lot of Mudokons in some of the stages in Oddworld: Soulstorm, then you can check out the game’s level select feature. It allows you to replay any level you’ve reached in the campaign. Checkpoints still exist here, so Abe can respawn whenever he dies. The downside, though, is that your progress isn’t saved if you exit the stage or the game.

Here’s an example:

  • You’ve reached level 10, but you missed out on the 80% requirement in a couple of levels.
  • If you replay, say, level 8, you’ll have to beat that in one sitting (ensuring that you’ve saved a majority of the Mudokons therein). If you quit that stage or the game, you’ll continue from level 10 since that’s, technically, the farthest point you’ve reached in the campaign.
  • Since there are some levels that’d take a while to finish, make sure you’ve got enough time if you’re doing a replay.
