Classic games always have a special place in our hearts. One of those niches belongs to the side-scrolling brawlers that made for great fun both solo and in co-op. When we talk about brawlers, Streets of Rage is up there with the best of them. Streets of Rage 4 will be the first time the series has a new entry in over 25 years. A new generation of gamers will be experiencing the pure enjoyment of dishing out some pain, and DotEmu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games are making sure the retro goodness is retained as well.

Retro classics

In a brand new gameplay trailer, the hard-hitting action of Streets of Rage 4 sure brings back some good memories. In a homage to the original Streets of Rage trilogy, 12 fighters will be making a return. Not only that, but they are also going to be in pixelated goodness. Every fighter will have their own unique move set and abilities, creating so many gameplay possibilities.

The existing five hand-animated brawlers will give us a grand total of 17 fighters to hit the streets with. That is not all the retro goodness players can look forward to though. Streets of Rage 4 will be bringing back the series’s iconic original soundtrack. Now you can take care of fools and save the streets while listening to the music of both Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2, like a trip back into the early ’90s.

Breaking new ground

You can always choose to listen to the modern soundtrack. Streets of Rage 4 has a great selection of musicians doing great work. The main composer, Olivier Derivière, will be joined by Harumi Fujita, Scattle, Das Mörtal, Groundislava, and XL Middleton. Our preview of the game at PAX East earlier this year definitely got us excited, and you should be too if you have been searching for a brawler to sink your teeth into. Streets of Rage 4 will be released this spring for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One for $24.99.
