The Revolution had a full 4K TimeSplitters 2 Easter egg

Do you remember 2016’s Homefront: The Revolution? Me neither, but the game is back in the spotlight now following a reveal of a frankly amazing Easter egg. Former Crytek developer Matt Phillips took to Twitter to share the best Easter egg he ever put inside a game, and that turned out to be a fully playable 4K version of TimeSplitters 2 in Homefront: The Revolution.

You read that right, a remastered 4K version of the shooter in another shooter. These Easter eggs are getting out of hand.

Anything related to the TimeSplitters franchise in recent memory has always been taken with a pinch of salt. However, this is probably more credible considering that Phillips actually worked on the game.

It was not just the game looking better either. The TimeSplitters 2 remaster had full features, and could have supported multiplayer if players were able to hack two or more of the arcade machines into the co-op maps in Homefront: The Revolution.

Lost in time

Unfortunately, no one will be able to experience it for themselves. The access code to TimeSplitters 2 in Homefront: The Revolution has been lost. Phillips himself does not have the code. The notebook that had the code written in it is no longer around. Talk about some serious password management issues.

This will only infuriate the TimeSplitters fans even more. THQ Nordic has no plans to remaster the game from 2002. There is a fan-driven mod, though, that is looking to update all three games in the series for modern players.

While it may take time and a lot of hard work, it is possible that someone could eventually get the TimeSplitters 2 Easter egg in Homefront: The Revolution to work. It might take a miracle, but we have seen our fair share of that in the gaming industry over the years.
