Comfortably the best pure racing game on iOS, GRID Autosport offers a startlingly faithful premium console racer experience with some truly stunning 3D graphics.
Publisher: Eden Games
Coming from a developer with genuine console racer pedigree, it’s no surprise that Gear.Club is one of the most exciting new iOS racer for years. It’s got great car physics, top graphics, and a large roster of real life rides.
3 Rush Rally 3
A brilliantly balanced racer that combines authentic muck-specked simulation with intuitive arcade racing.
4 Reckless Racing 3
Publisher: Pixelbite Games
Genre: Arcade, Racing
Reckless Racing 3 is all about churning through dirt, elbowing your opponents out of the way with your steering wheel on opposite lock. It’s gleeful, messy fun.
5 AG Drive
Developer: Zorg Entertainment
Definitely the closest thing you’re going to get to Wipeout on your phone. Or any platform, it seems. This stunning anti-gravity racer was years in the making, and will have you straining to catch the awesome visuals as you race past at breakneck speed.
6 Motorsport Manager 3
You don’t actually race any cars in Motorsport Manager Mobile 3. But your job as manager – hiring and firing racers, choosing tires, and investing in sponsors – is just as important.
7 Blocky Roads
Publisher: DogByte Games
A deceptively accomplished, finely honed take on the Trials template. Get your blocky car to the finishing line by scaling hills, dips, and improbably large chasms.
8 Real Racing 3
Publisher: EA Mobile
It’s no longer the uncontested king of mobile racing, thanks to the arrival of newer, prettier rivals. But Real Racing 3 still has a great handling model, loads of cars, and endless content.
9 Asphalt 9: Legends
Genre: Arcade, Multiplayer, Racing
Physics and gravity are purely optional when it comes to Asphalt 9, a riotously OTT arcade racer that can’t help but make you smile. It’s easy peasy to get into, and boy does it look pretty.
10 Horizon Chase
Publisher: Aquiris Game Studio
Remember when racing games were about fast red cars, bright blue skies, and long ass roads that just stretched off into the distance? Horizon Chase certainly remembers, and brings back those Outrun memories in style.
11 Data Wing
It might not look like any racing game you’ve ever played, but Data Wing is a thrilling example of the genre. Imagine a top-down racer with Lunar Lander spaceships in place of cars, and you’ll begin to grasp the basics of this ingenious game.
12 Kartrider Rush+
Those who were left a little underwhelmed by Mario Kart’s mobile showing will be thrilled with KartRider Rush+. And perhaps a little annoyed with Nintendo. THIS is how you cram a premium karting experience onto a tiny pocket device.
An intriguing combination of Rocket League and True Skate, 3D racing game adds stunts, tricks, ramps and loop-de-loops to the usual dash to the line.
14 Pako 2
Publisher: Tree Men Games
This fast-paced driving game sees you fleeing from the cops and causing carnage in a series of open maps. Your average run will be brutally short but oh-so-sweet, which is why Pako 2 is a great mobile game.
15 Rebel Racing
Hutch Games turns its attention to the pure 3D arcade racer in Rebel Racing, with gloriously slick results. Stunning graphics and greatly streamlined controls make this shine on mobile.
16 Riptide GP: Renegade
This grittier, more spectacular brother of Riptide GP 2 proves that racing games don’t have to have wheels and roads. This splishy splashy jet ski sim trades pavement for water, and let’s you do massive stunts in mid-air to gain boosts.
17 Mario Kart Tour
Nintendo’s signature kart racer screeches onto mobile. And while it’s far from perfect, and perhaps a little too casual and ‘freemium’ for Nintendo die-hards, there’s no doubting that its one-finger controls still feel like Mario Kart.
18 Garena Speed Drifters
Another karting game that rather unexpectedly gives Mario Kart Tour a serious run for its money. Garena Speed Drifters lacks the personality of Nintendo’s storied franchise, but it’s got some meaty drift-heavy arcade-racing gameplay and loads of content.
19 Pako Forever
Publisher: Tree Men Games
As the name suggests, Pako Forever takes the series’s automotive carnage and applies it to an endless game mode. This driving game’s about stamina and manoeuvrability rather than speed.
20 Forza Street
OK, so it’s not the full Forza Horizon experience that you might have been (rather ambitiously) hoping for. But Forza Street is an interesting development of the CSR formula, and it looks absolutely stunning.
21 F1 Mobile Racing
F1 Mobile Racing is a technically brilliant representation of elite level motor racing, but with a welcome sense of accessibility.
22 Go Rally
Go Rally isn’t a serious rally sim by any means, but it does provide a gloriously tight series of slidey point-to-point time trials.
23 MAXIMUM CAR
Publisher: I Fight Bears
We don’t generally approve of excessive capitalisation, but in this case MAXIMUM CAR earns a pass. It’s a brilliantly OTT combat racer with chunky graphics and a strong whiff of Burnout.
24 Smash Cops
Genre: Action, Racing
Something of a minor App Store classic, Smash Cops offers a delightfully destructive brand of cops vs robbers carnage, complete with brilliant one-finger controls.
25 CSR Racing 2
Publisher: NaturalMotion Games
This much beloved drag racer only cares about two things. Showing a roster of shiny cars you definitely couldn’t afford in real life in the best possible light. And going forward very fast, one gear shift at a time. Luckily, it does both things very well.
